Fear the Bugs

Fear the Bugs

In time, they will come; the treacherous beating from creature’s unseen. Coming with nightmares infesting the precious soil of your cannabis grow, draining the leaves of nutrients, and disrupting the vital life of hormone reproduction. Soon, they will come, without a single regard to the plants you hold as Dear as they destroy the passion and creativity and ultimately ingest the work you’ve done over hard-time and blistering progression. Soon, they will come, and NOW is the time to set up your defenses, control your future, and establish your true worth as an educated grower who can beat the battle coming from the beastly Spider Mite Armies that will come . . . soon.

Prevention! The key to successful spider mite control is prevention. The signs on your cannabis rooms could say something like, “Spider Mite Haven” or “Spider Mite Spa” and it wouldn’t be wrong because the temperature and humidity of a cannabis grow is the perfect environment for the many different species of spider mites to thrive in; with plants in the room, they literally have everything they need for mass reproduction in as little as three days!

But there is hope! Natural remedies and natures’ predators can help deter the hostile takeover, and understanding the advantages and disadvantages of each can prove very helpful in a time of need.

Fighting the mites with natures’ predators is a popular gardening technique, and it’s no surprise that many growers turn to that option first – it’s organic, cheaper than pesticides, and it takes little effort when it comes to distributing the predators to the plants. I just ask that cannabis growers keep in mind that the predators, such as ladybugs, are also living creatures that will require their own food, water, and reproductive cycles; creating nests and hanging eggs sacs to ensure their own species survival, and removing live critters from a harvest will become a challenge regardless of the species you induce to your plants.

Spider mites hate the light! Which is why they would rather hang out on the bottom of the leaves of your cannabis dreams, so when thinking of organic pesticides to distribute, know your facts about the products and how to properly apply the treatment. Use their light phobia to your advantage! Notice the shadows in your grow and eliminate them. Spray up. You can spray everything when the lights are off (keeping in mind the photoperiod so you don’t stress your plants too much), and always wear the proper PPE when treating your room.

Stopping unwanted pests from entering your rooms can be a daunting task, but crucial for the survival of continued, safe production in the cannabis industry. Prevent the nightmares from coming with a proper defensive plan.

Know your worth. Know your facts. Know your team.
